Chorwerk Ruhr brings one of the most important works in music history to the people of the Ruhr region. The singers led by principal conductor Florian Helgath invite the citizens of Essen to sing Bach's chorales from his St Matthew Passion together with them and thus actively participate in the performance. In the salt warehouse at the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, a 360° concert experience is being created that not only makes Bach's music audible, but also allows it to be experienced collectively – a project of cultural participation and social interaction in the heart of the Ruhr region.
