The Croatian mezzo-soprano Anthea Barać graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Claudia Visca and Florian Boesch.
During her studies, Anthea Barać appeared as La zia principessa in Puccini's Suor Angelica and as Frau Reich in Nicolai's Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre in Vienna.
Previous concert highlights include performances of Verdi's Requiem in Bassano del Grappa (Italy), at the Klagenfurt Concert Hall and at the Vienna Musikverein. She has also performed as an alto soloist in Bach's Magnificat in Pula (Croatia), Mendelssohn's Paulus at the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava and with excerpts from Bruckner's Requiem, Bach's Magnificat and Mass in B minor under the baton of Erwin Ortner at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre.
Anthea Barać is a very passionate lied interpreter and is particularly dedicated to the Russian (Tchaikovsky/Rachmaninoff) and German Romantic repertoire (Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, Zemlinsky).
As a permanent member of the ensemble at the Hanover State Opera from the 2025/2026 season onwards, she will make her role debuts as the Gingerbread Witch in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel and as Annina in Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier, as well as Emilia, Priestess and Brigitta in new productions of Verdi's Otello, Dusapin's Penthesilea and Korngold's Die tote Stadt.
