THOMAS QUASTHOFF with exciting jazz concerts in Germany

However, the last two concerts of the Thomas Quasthoff Quartet at the Jazzfest Rottweil (May 18) and at Bielefeld’s Rudolf-Oetker-Halle (May 20) are worth reporting, since these meant a new start after the pandemic, not only for the audience, but also for Thomas Quasthoff himself. It had been a long two years, with numerous cancellations and postponements necessitated by the coronavirus.

Thus, the sold-out Old Stallhalle in Rottweil was full of happy, relaxed anticipation – on stage and in the auditorium. The following two and a half hours caused the audience to enter a state of euphoria, almost mutual intoxication. The conclusion of this unforgettable evening was nothing less than a declaration of love for live concerts in general – illustrating what we have all been missing during the pandemic, whether on stage, behind the scenes or in the auditoria. The evening two days later in Bielefeld was similar: from overwhelming applause before the show to standing ovations at the end, this Westphalian guest appearance offered the full breadth of infectious emotions and artistic grandeur.

What remains is yet more eager anticipation: of a return to some kind of normalcy in the artistic sector, of full halls, felicitous concert experiences, and: Thomas Quasthoff’s next jazz concert at the Verbier Festival!
