THOMAS QUASTHOFF in Vienna

After his last appearances in Vienna last March, in two extraordinary programmes in the city’s two major concert halls, Thomas Quasthoff received rave reviews: “Overwhelming!” said the Kurier, “deeply moving” the Kronenzeitung. And that was true of both programmes in which Thomas Quasthoff shone as the narrator: on the one hand, Viktor Ullmann’s impressive setting of Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke, which he performed with the Czech Philharmonic under its chief conductor Semyon Bychkov at the Musikverein to great applause.

Only two weeks later, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra invited him to the Konzerthaus, where Constantinos Carydis conducted Schoenberg’s Survivor from Warsaw. There is nothing to add to the quotes above, and we are curious to see which special moments Thomas Quasthoff’s next visit to Vienna will bring.
