SABINE DEVIEILHE | Recital and Opera pasticcio at the Salzburg Festival

After her previous appearance at the Salzburg Festival in 2023, Sabine Devieilhe now returns this summer for not one, but two engagements showcasing her unstoppable artistic versatility. First up is a recital with long-standing recital partner and collaborative pianist Mathieu Pordoy in an evening entitled “une soirée française” featuring works by Fauré, Poulenc and Ravel, among others. A particular treat for audiences who were lucky enough to witness the pair in recent recital tours featuring equally skilful interpretations of German Strauss and Liszt lieder.

Following the recital, the French coloratura soprano turns her attention to the upcoming series of semi-staged concerts entitled “Zaide oder Der Weg des Lichts” at the Felsenreitschule, which she performs together with her close musical allies of the Ensemble Pygmalion and Raphael Pichon, and fellow Machreich Artist Julian Prégardien. The programme features a combination of Mozart’s operatic works from 1779 to 1785, to be certainly as ever cleverly crafted by Pichon into a unique and moving narrative.

“With this new creation for the Salzburg Festival, which delves into the rarely performed Zaide and Davide penitente (based on the Great Mass in C minor), along with other Mozart gems, they compose a humanist fresco where the individual and the collective respond to each other; where the battle between light and shadow is reenacted at every moment.”
– Eddy Garaudel, Dramaturg.
