SABINE DEVIEILHE makes her debut as Sophie at Zurich Opera

Der Rosenkavalier is touching in its special mixture of wistfulness and pain, sadness and humour, with which Hugo von Hofmannsthal imbued the libretto and which Richard Strauss set to music enchantingly. Sabine Devieilhe’s ethereal, silvery soprano is a perfect fit for the lively, charming role of Sophie.

Sabine Devieilhe proved her special knack for Richard Strauss’ music last summer, when she made her debut as Zerbinetta in a new production of Ariadne auf Naxos at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence. Even in the dizzying heights of the coloratura aria (which lasts an impressive ten minutes), her voice remained beautifully rounded and crystal-clear.
