MARTINA JANKOVÁ and MARIO ZEFFIRI in Helsinki

Gustav Wasa, the only opera by Mozart’s contemporary Leopold Koželuch to have come down to us, will be performed as part of the Early Music Series of the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra under the baton of Aapo Häkkinen in an eagerly-awaited semi-staged production, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death. It is the work’s first performance since Koželuch’s lifetime; his opera about the Swedish king Gustav Vasa has been reconstructed and arranged especially for this production in Helsinki from a manuscript kept in the library of the Prague Conservatory. The international cast includes Mario Zeffiri in the title role and Martina Janková, who appeared most recently in several concert performances of Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen in Munich.
