With the Christmas Oratorio, John Neumeier presents a ballet creation not only in keeping with the upcoming festive season in its musical feel, but also with its subject matter. Against the backdrop of Johann Sebastian Bach's oratorio Neumeier has choreographed a timeless story about trust and confidence, about inner contemplation and universal joy, both an interpretation and continuation of Bach's music and texts. Marie-Sophie Pollak returns to the Hamburg State Opera for this festive occasion and takes on the soprano part on three evenings under the direction of Alessandro De Marchi.
Marie-Sophie Pollak will then perform with the RIAS Chamber Choir and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin under the direction of Justin Doyle on New Year's Day as part of a New Year's Concert for Peace at the Berlin Philharmonie. The programme, which in the current geopolitical situation is all the more characterised by hope for global peace, mutual respect and tolerance, includes Handel's Utrecht Te Deum and Bach's Magnificat.
