NIKOLA HILLEBRAND | an eventful start to the New Year

Kicking off the start of the year in Frankfurt, she joined pianist Simon Lepper for a “reiner feiner Schubert-Liederabend” dedicated to both firm favourites and lesser known gems of the composer. Her performance was as equally warmly received as her recent presentation of the all-Schubert programme earlier this season at London’s Wigmore Hall.

This January also marks the soprano’s debut on stage at the Amsterdam Het Concertgebouw, where she joins mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti and conductor Lorenzo Viotti for Mahler’s Second Symphony with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. No stranger to Mahler’s symphonic works, she most recently performed the work last season with the Vienna Radio Symphony under Marin Alsop, in which her voice was characterised as floating serenely and calmly above everyone and everything.

Turning her attention to Brahms next, she makes her long-awaited debut with the Staatskapelle Berlin and Christian Thielemann in the composer’s transcendent and well-loved Requiem at the Berlin Philharmonic and Berlin State Opera. She makes her return to the latter later in the season for her house debut in one of her signature roles as Sophie in Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier – a debut definitely not worth missing!

As February comes around, she enjoys her return to the Gewandhaus Orchestra, this time with an all-Mendelssohn concert , featuring in particular Die erste Walpurgisnacht and the Psalm “Wie der Hirsch schreit” alongside fellow Machreich-Artist Werner Güra.
