Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium, or Christmas Oratorio, with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal under the baton of Kent Nagano marks the beginning of a pre-Christmas tour of Canada which subsequently takes the German soprano Marie-Sophie Pollak to Québec, where she performs Handel’s Messiah with the ensemble Les Violons du Roy. These two concerts at the Maison de la musique will be conducted by its founder Bernard Labadie, with whom Maire-Sophie Pollak will also work for the third of her Canadian engagements in Ottawa, with the National Arts Centre Orchestra. This latter appearance also features Handel’s Messiah.
The artist’s calendar then boasts three more performances of Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium after her return from Canada: shortly after Christmas, she will perform the work in John Neumeier’s interpretation at the Hamburg State Opera. Neumeier was inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s oratorio to choreograph a timeless story of faith, trust, inner contemplation and universal joy. The performances will be conducted by Alessandro De Marchi.
