LAURA AIKIN in Trojahn’s Orest at the Vienna State Opera

Reviews praised Manfred Trojahn’s opera Orest as “breath-taking”, “of a burning intensity” and “extraordinary density and colourfulness” after its world premiere in Amsterdam in 2011. In it Trojahn, who also wrote the libretto, retells the story of Orestes, the matricide. It is about dealing with guilt and memory, about overcoming the deed, about persecution and liberation.

Now the work will be performed in a new production at the Vienna State Opera. Laura Aikin, who last appeared at the opera house on Vienna’s Ring as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, takes on the role of Helena. Marco Arturo Marelli is responsible for directing, sets and light design; Michael Boder conducts the five performances in March and April.
