GEORG NIGL | A Festival Summer 2026 of Artistic Versatility

Baritone Georg Nigl once again brings his remarkable artistic versatility to some of Austria's and Germany's most prestigious festivals during the summer of 2026. At the Carinthian Summer Festival, together with Alexander Gergelyfi performing on a historic fortepiano, he will present Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin, offering audiences a distinctive perspective on one of the most significant song cycles in music history.

At the Salzburg Festival, Nigl will be featured in several productions. On 23 July, he will perform the role of Lui in a concert performance of Pascal Dusapin's Passion, together with Ensemble Modern under the baton of Franck Ollu.

Following the great success of recent years, the acclaimed Nachtmusiken series will return. Together with Alexander Gergelyfi (clavichord) and Dörte Lyssewski (recitation), Nigl combines music and literature in intimate programmes, including Zum Leiden bin ich auserkoren – Mozart's Clavichord, as well as evenings dedicated to Shakespeare and François Villon. Each programme will be performed twice, for a total of six concerts.

Another highlight follows on 20 August, when Georg Nigl assumes the title role in Hans Werner Henze's Der Prinz von Homburg in a concert performance at the Salzburg Festival. Together with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna (RSO Wien) under the musical direction of Ingo Metzmacher, he portrays the complex character of the Prince, caught in the "conflict between reason of state and human emotion," as described by the Salzburg Festival.

To conclude the festival season, Nigl returns to Musikfest Bremen, where he continues the concept of his acclaimed Musikalischer Salon. This year's edition features the Vienna-celebrated programme Die letzten Tage der Menschlichkeit ("The Last Days of Humanity?"), created together with actor Nicholas Ofczarek and pianist Vladimir Jurowski. The theatrical evening interweaves songs by Mahler, Eisler, and Seeger with texts from Karl Kraus's Die letzten Tage der Menschheit.

With these performances, Georg Nigl once again makes a stand-out artistic statement in a festival summer distinguished by exceptional versatility and artistic excellence.
