ELEANOR LYONS | US Debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra

Beethoven's Missa Solemnis is one of the greatest and most demanding mass settings in music history and was the first piece performed in 1900 at the then newly opened Boston Symphony Hall. From moving solo passages to sharp contrasts – such as the devotional Agnus Dei, which is interrupted by martial fanfares – Beethoven's vision combines dramatic orchestration, virtuoso choral scores and profound emotional depth.

Eleanor Lyons, who in addition to her role as Leonore at the Semperoper Dresden has made a name for herself in recent years as a soloist in Beethoven's Missa Solemnis – including on a European tour with the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées at the Elbphilharmonie, which the Hamburger Abendblatt described as an "unbelievable vocal miracle" – can now be heard performing this work as part of the 125th anniversary of the opening of Symphony Hall, making not only her debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Andris Nelsons, but also her US debut in general.
