ELEANOR LYONS begins the New Year with Beethoven

As is so often the case with Eleanor Lyons, Beethoven will once again be at the centre of her work in the coming weeks. As part of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year's concert entitled ‘Freude, schöner Götterfunken’ (Joy, beautiful spark of the gods) under Stefan Blunier, she will be performing as a soloist for the first time at the Mercatorhalle in Duisburg, where she will take on the soprano part in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony – his musical commitment to humanity, freedom and universal brotherhood par excellence.

Eleanor Lyons' next engagement takes her to Palermo, where she will make her first appearance at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and, accompanied by the local choir and orchestra, will perform as a soloist in Beethoven's Missa Solemnis – a work with which she has a special artistic connection and which she has performed regularly in Europe's major concert halls in recent years. At the conductor's podium is Umberto Clerici, an artistic companion under whose baton she recently performed the solo part in Verdi's Messa da Requiem with the Australian Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
