DAVID STEFFENS as Pimen in Stuttgart's "Boris Godunov"

After his highly acclaimed role debut as Ochs auf Lerchenau in Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier, Fasolt in Richard Wagner's Das Rheingold as the prelude to the new Stuttgart Ring and his house debut as the First Nazarene in Salome at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, David Steffens now makes another weighty role debut in Stuttgart with Pimen in Modest Mussorgski's Boris Godunov.

With Boris Godunov, Mussorgski took a look back in the mid-19th century to a time of political turmoil in the early 17th century. The 2020 texts by Sergei Nevsky, set to music by the Belarusian Nobel Prize winner for literature Svetlana Alexievich, trace traumas of the Soviet 20th century up to the upheavals of the 1990s - and both spheres merge in the Stuttgart performance of Boris.

In addition to Pimen, David Steffens will also appear as Oroveso in Bellini's Norma as well as Commendatore in Mozart's Don Giovanni, before finishing his current Stuttgart season with three concert performances of Schumann's Scenes from Goethe's Faust .
