German soprano Christiane Karg marks the end of the calendar year with appearances at some of the most reputed concert venues in Europe, at the same time reinforcing her presence as one of the most in-demand soloists for some of the most beloved works of the concert repertoire.
Beginning in London on 1 December, she makes her anticipated return to the Wigmore Hall with the festive international programme she released back in 2021 with Gerold Huber at the piano. The programme features Christmas from six countries across two centuries, with songs by Engelbert Humperdinck and Peter Cornelius, sparkling rarities by Ravel and Chaminade, and a quartet of seductive villancicos españolas by Cuban composer Joaquín Nin.
Shortly after, she joins the Mozarteumorchester under Roberto González-Monjas and a renowned line-up of soloists to perform Mozart’s Requiem in D minor in the composer’s birth city – in a concert to mark the anniversary of his death. In the week before Christmas, she returns to both a familiar work and orchestra in four concerts of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Andris Nelsons, making their guest appearance additionally at the Cologne Philharmonie.
Rounding off the calendar year, she joins fellow Machreich Artist Julian Prégardien for Beethoven’s monumental Ninth Symphony in its traditional New Years’ performances at the Wiener Konzerthaus with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Dima Slobodeniouk. What better way to celebrate the jump into the New Year, filled with renewed hope in an ever-turbulent world.
