An Italian with a strong affinity for the German repertoire. A "melodist by nature"(Der Tagesspiegel), a “natural melodist” (Der Tagesspiegel), who excels at bringing the intricacy of his stylistically informed interpretations to the big orchestral apparatus. Antonello Manacorda sees himself as a true orchestral specialist, whose artistic creative power is combined with the need for a musical style based on partnership. His versatility as a conductor is rooted in the richness of his musical and cultural background: born into an French-Italian family in Turin, educated in Amsterdam and a longtime Berlin resident, Manacorda was a founding member and longstanding concertmaster of Claudio Abbado’s Mahler Chamber Ochestra, before studying under legendary Finnish conductor Jorma Panula.
Today, he can be heard as frequently in opera productions at the world's most renowned opera houses as he is conducting leading symphony orchestras. The centre of his creative work is the Kammerakademie Potsdam, of which he has been Artistic Director since 2010 and with whom he has made a number of award-winning recordings.
His most recent successes include his debut at the Metropolitain Opera (Nozze di Figaro), a new production of Weber's Der Freischütz at the Bavarian State Opera, performances at the Paris Opera (The Magic Flute), the Vienna State Opera (Don Giovanni and Madama Butterfly) as well as his debut at the Semperoper Dresden(Der Freischütz) and a new production of Bizet's Carmen at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. In the current and upcoming season, Antonello Manacorda will be conducting at the Stuttgart State Opera (Il trovatore), the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), the Zurich Opera (Nozze di Figaro) and the Opéra National de Paris (Pelléas et Mélisande).
We look forward to a fruitful collaboration and many inspiring opera projects together!
