ANTHEA BARAĆ | NEW under General Management

While studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the Croatian mezzo-soprano Anthea Baraċ attracted attention in several productions with her exceptionally warm, dark timbre and her particularly colourful and resonant voice, even in the lower registers, including as La zia principessa in Puccini's Suor Angelica and as Frau Reich in Nicolai's Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor. 

As a new member of the ensemble at the Hanover State Opera from the 2025/2026 season, Anthea will make her role debuts as the Gingerbread Witch in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel and as Annina in Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier, as well as Emilia, Priestess and Brigitta in new productions of Verdi's Otello, Dusapin's Penthesilea and Korngold's Die tote Stadt. 

The first concert highlights of her still young career were performances of Verdi's Requiem in Bassano del Grappa (Italy), at the Klagenfurt Concert Hall and at the Vienna Musikverein. Anthea Baraċ has also performed as an alto soloist in Bach's Magnificat in Pula (Croatia), Mendelssohn's Paulus at the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava and with excerpts from Bruckner's Requiem, Bach's Magnificat and Mass in B minor under the baton of Erwin Ortner at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre.

Her stylistic versatility and creative sensitivity are also convincingly expressed in the field of lieder, where she devotes herself with particular passion to the Russian (Tchaikovsky/Rachmaninoff) and German Romantic repertoire (Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, Zemlinsky).
