ADRIAN ERÖD & THOMAS EBENSTEIN in "Der Rosenkavalier“ in Japan

After the Vienna State Opera's successful opening of its guest performance in Japan with Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, staged by Barrie Kosky in 2023, Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier, in Otto Schenk's legendary production, is now on the programme as the second production.

The production premiered at the Vienna State Opera on 13 April 1968, with Leonard Bernstein conducting, Christa Ludwig in the role of the Marschallin and Walter Berry as Ochs. For the revival in December 2010, director Otto Schenk personally breathed new life into his production, with stage designs by Rudolf Heinrich.

KS Adrian Eröd, who has been regularly featured in this production since 2013 and has also made regular appearances at the Tokyo Spring Festival in recent years, will be on stage at the Bunka Kaikan Concert Hall as Faninal in the upcoming four performances. Thomas Ebenstein, also a long-standing member of the ensemble and most recently heard as Monostatos at the Metropolitan Opera and as Mime in Wagner's Siegfried in Dresden and Lucerne, will appear as Valzacchi – a role he has also performed over 30 times at the Haus am Ring.
