Julian Prégardien, tenor
Tamar Halperin, piano

Tenor Julian Prégardien inspires as a lieder singer as well as in Johann Sebastian Bach's oratorios and on the opera stage. He was the first singer after dedicatee Mark Padmore to perform Thomas Larcher's fascinating Padmore Cycle. Together with the pianist and harpsichordist Tamar Halperin, he creates a musical arch to the early days of opera and presents a cantata by the Baroque composer Barbara Strozzi, who also impressed as a singer with her love songs. From there, the versatile harpsichordist builds a bridge to the German-speaking world with Johann Sebastian Bach's music, where Hans Aschenwald's and Alois Hotschnig's unique poetry is made to resound in Larcher's sometimes extremely reduced songs.

Everything could be much nicer, bigger and better! — Jakob, son of the fisherman and his wife, has caught something. The fish makes wishes come true, granting Jakob and his parents shoes, a bed, a house — what a stroke of luck for the poor family! But the more they get, the more dissatisfied the parents become, wanting more and more and more… and when Jakob returns to the beach and calls for the fish, the sea becomes ever more turbulent.
