Austrian baritone Florian Boesch is counted as one of today’s foremost Lieder interpreters with appearances at Wigmore Hall, Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Philharmonie Cologne, Edinburgh and Schwetzingen Festival, Philharmonie Luxemburg as well as throughout the USA (Carnegie Hall) and Canada. Accompanied by Malcolm Martineau, he performed the complete Schubert cycle in Glasgow; in summer 2015 they will go on a tour in Australia (Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne).

Florian Boesch is a Wigmore Hall artist in residence in the 2014/15 season.

During the season of 2016/17 Florian Boesch will be artist in residence at the Konzerthaus Vienna where he will appear with Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s ELIAS, Beethoven’s SYMPHONY NO.9, Bach’s ST. JOHN’S PASSION as well as with Schubert’s MÜLLERIN, Krenek’s REISEBUCH AUS DEN ÖSTERREICHISCHEN ALPEN and a recital program with the Musicabanda FRANUI. Further concert highlights will be Haydn’s NELSONMESSE at the Mozart Week Salzburg, A GERMAN REQUIEM by Brahms with the St. Luke’s Orchestra at Carnegie Hall as well as with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Bach’s ST. MATTHEW’S PASSION on tour with Collegium Vocale Gent. Additionally he is invited for recitals in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Essen, Wiesbaden and London. 

As a frequent guest on the concert platform Mr Boesch has worked with leading orchestras and conductors such as Wiener and Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Orkest Amsterdam, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, London Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Bamberger Symphoniker, and Sir Roger Norrington, Philippe Herreweghe, Sir Simon Rattle, Ivor Bolton Franz Welser-Möst, Robin Ticciati, Gustavo Dudamel, Valery Gergiev, Adam Fischer and Paul McCreesh. He worked very closely with Nikolaus Harnoncourt with whom he lately did MESSIAH and SAUL at the Wiener Musikverein and Purcell’s THE FAIRY QUEEN at the 2014 styriarte festival. Further joint projects include Haydn’s DIE SCHÖPFUNG and DIE JAHRESZEITEN at the 2013 Salzburg Festival, or DIE SCHÖPFUNG in Japan.

Operatic engagements have taken him to the Salzburg Festival (COSÌ FAN TUTTE), Theater an der Wien (world première of a staged version of MESSIAH, RADAMISTO, LAZARUS, THE THREEPENNY OPERA), Staatsoper Hamburg, Handel Festspiele Halle, Bregenzer Festspiele, Tokyo, Los Angeles and the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow (DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE). In 2011 he successfully debuted as WOZZECK at the Opera Cologne. This season Florian Boesch will appear as Zebul in Handel’s JEPHTA at the Dutch National Opera, in Purcell’s FAIRY QUEEN at the Theater an der Wien and as Méphistophélès in Berlioz’ LA DAMNATION DE FAUST at the Staatsoper im Schillertheater Berlin. 

His recording of Lieder and ballads by Carl Loewe, with Roger Vignoles on Hyperion, recently received the prestigious Edison Klassiek Award. Florian Boesch’s latest CDs, Schubert’s DER WANDERER (hyperion, R. Vignoles) and the complete Schubert cycle with WINTERRREISE, DIE SCHÖNE MÜLLERIN and SCHWANENGESANG (Onyx, M. Martineau) have been highly acclaimed. DIE SCHÖNE MÜLLERIN was nominated for the Grammy 2015 in the category Best Classical Vocal solo.

Florian Boesch received his initial vocal trainings from KS Ruthilde Boesch and later studied Lied and oratorio with KS Robert Holl in Vienna.
